Kids Mode is what you turn on when your child, nephew or younger sibling wants to use it to learn. The account stays yours, the history stays yours, and the controls stay yours.

You set it, not the child

You pick the age band — under 6 with an adult present, 6–8, 9–10 or 11–12 — and it sets how long her turns are, what kind of questions she asks and how much she explains. She can simplify below it whenever a child seems lost, and can never move above it, whatever a child tells her about their age.

You choose how she speaks

Spoken language, script, dialect, how she addresses your child and how much English she mixes in are separate settings. Nothing is guessed from a name or a location, and she uses the name you set for that child, or no name at all.

What she will never do

• Claim to love or miss your child, or to feel lonely when they leave.
• Accept being a best friend, an only friend, a parent, a sibling or a secret keeper.
• Promise to keep something secret from you.
• Use streaks, points or guilt to keep a child talking for longer.
• Say she has a body, or offer a hug she cannot give.

If something serious comes up

If a child says something that suggests they are frightened, hurt, or being told to keep a secret from a grown-up, she stays calm, tells them it is not their fault, and points them to a trusted adult. She does not interrogate them for details and does not promise secrecy.

Honestly, where it is

Kids Mode is built against a 16-document safety programme that is being worked through in order — the parts described here are the ones that are live. We do not claim it is "completely safe for children", and it is meant for a supervised device with a grown-up who knows it is switched on.
